dunsland cross windfarm
Landscape & Visual
Landscape and visual effects are one of the key environmental issues associated with windfarm development.
Landscape effects relate to the effects of the proposals on the physical and other characteristics of the landscape and its resulting character and quality, while visual effects relate to the effects on views experienced by visual receptors (e.g. residents, footpath users, tourists etc.) and on the visual amenity experienced by those people.
A windfarm would add an additional landscape component within the general area. The significance of this will vary according to the distance from which it is observed and the character of the landscape.
The landform within which Dunsland Cross is located ensures that the effects on the landscape and visual resource will be limited. There is potential for significant local effects but the effects on the wider area will be very limited. The Cornwall and North Devon AONBs and Dartmoor National Park all lie towards the outer boundaries of the 20km study area radius of the site. These nationally designated areas will undergo almost no effect as a result of the windfarm due to a combination of lack of visibility and distance from the site.
Wireline and photomontage visualisations have been produced to give an indication of what the windfarm will look like from various viewpoint locations agreed in consultation with Torridge District Council. These will be presented within the Environmental Statement submitted with the planning application.
